Participation and Adherence to Procedures

I authorize the participation of my child/student in the Wharton Global Youth Program and their residence in University housing. I hereby authorize WHARTON to forward all course evaluations directly to SUMMER DISCOVERY. SUMMER DISCOVERY is the trade name of Musiker Discovery Programs, Inc., (herein referred to as SUMMER DISCOVERY). I agree to adhere to the procedures, policies, handbooks, and rules and regulations set forth by WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY. I agree that my child will abide by the SUMMER DISCOVERY Code of Conduct, including any modifications, and I will review said documents with my child. WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY reserve the right in its sole discretion to terminate the membership of any student who does not abide by the procedures, policies and rules and regulations, and/or whose conduct is deemed by the directors to be such as to endanger the student, the success of the program or the enjoyment or welfare of other students and/or the directors or staff members. In the event of such termination, the parent or guardian will be notified, the student will be sent home immediately and there will be no refund issued. Such termination will be at the sole expense of the parent/guardian. WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY are not responsible for any cost of travel, food, lodging or consequential damages.

The manner and means of transporting the student home shall be determined exclusively by SUMMER DISCOVERY. Any and all additional expenses incidental to the termination, including, but not limited to, the cost of the transportation of the student to the airport, the purchase of a new one-way airline ticket, and all baggage fees, shall be borne by the parent/guardian or student. If the student lives within three hours driving distance of the campus, the parent/guardian agrees to pick up the student immediately or to designate an adult age 21 years or over to pick up the student and transport the student home. I agree that if the student is sent home for any reason there will be a parent/guardian to meet and pick up the student at the airport from the flight SUMMER DISCOVERY chooses. I agree that if the parent/guardian is not home and traveling, that there will be a relative or emergency contact adult (21 years or older) designated to pick up the student from the airport from the flight that SUMMER DISCOVERY chooses. I understand that if the student is dismissed from the program the student will be withdrawn from all classes and not be permitted to complete the credit and/or noncredit coursework.

Medical Information

I agree to provide SUMMER DISCOVERY with all information regarding my child that may be relevant to their emotional and physical well-being while attending the Wharton Global Youth Program and consent to SUMMER DISCOVERY sharing such information with WHARTON. I, on behalf of my child, certify to SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON that I will provide a full and complete disclosure of all medical, psychological, or emotional conditions, including medications that are being taken and/or withheld during the time my child is at the Wharton Global Youth Program. I understand that this information is necessary in order for SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON to make reasonable accommodations and for my child to have a successful experience.

I understand that SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON require full disclosure of any important medical information, including, but not limited to, my child receiving professional counseling, or prior/current use of any behavior modification medication in the previous 24 months in order to make reasonable accommodations for my child. Failure to inform SUMMER DISCOVERY of such information in writing may lead to the dismissal of my child from the program. In the event of such termination, the student will be sent home as detailed above and the parent or guardian notified.

To ensure the health and safety of everyone on campus, the university STRONGLY ENCOURAGES Covid-19 vaccinations for all residential students (in addition to all typical childhood vaccines). If a student tests positive for Covid-19 while attending a Wharton Global Youth Program and must consequently depart campus, they may be eligible for a partial refund if they miss 25% or more of the program after departing. This timeframe starts when the student departs campus, not from the date of the positive Covid-19 test. WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY reserve the right to change this policy at any time. Students’ parents or legal guardians will be notified by email of any changes to the vaccination policy should they occur.

Responsibility Clause

SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON, and their respective employees, shareholders, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, successors, agents, and assigns do not own or operate all of the entities that provide goods or services for your program including, for example, food service providers. As a result, SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON are not liable for any negligent or willful act or failure to act of any such third party not under its control. In addition, I release SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON from any and all claims predicated upon my own negligence or that of my child. Without limiting the foregoing in any manner, SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON accept no responsibility for any risks or resulting injury, delay, inconvenience, damages, or death which results from criminal activity, weather or other acts of God, accidents, illness, the demands of outdoor activities, strikes, political unrest, epidemics, pandemics, government or university actions or the threat thereof, acts of terrorism or the threat thereof, or any other events beyond its direct control. I agree to recognize and assume these risks on my behalf and on behalf of my child.

Consent to Participate

I hereby give permission for my child to participate in all activities on and off campus and take part in all activities scheduled by the directors of the Wharton Global Youth Program and SUMMER DISCOVERY. To the extent permissible by law, I further authorize SUMMER DISCOVERY to sign any waivers and/or permission forms necessary for my child to participate in these activities. My signature indicates that I give my specific consent to my child’s participation in all program activities and use of necessary equipment for those activities including, but not limited to: biking, rollerblading, ropes course, indoor rock climbing and climbing walls, indoor trampoline parks, hiking, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, surfing, body boarding, windsurfing, aqua biking, go-carts, golfing and other similar activities, and to travel in public transportation and privately leased or hired or ride-share vehicles.

Consent to Data Transfer

I hereby give permission for my student’s data to be transferred to the United States for the purpose of permitting WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY to provide the Wharton Global Youth Program to participating students. This data may include the following: medical information, demographic data, health data, religious beliefs, race or ethnic origin.

Alterations and Changes

WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY reserve the right to make any alterations in the program, housing, dates, transportation, food arrangements, activities, sight-seeing, program leadership and makeup of program membership as it, in its sole discretion, may deem necessary or desirable. Additional expenses, if any, shall be borne by the student’s parents or guardians.

Financial Liability

WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY are not financially responsible for students’ lost/missing personal property, student ID cards or room keys; key/lock replacement; damages to the student’s dorm room, common areas or any university property; any unpaid medical fees; additional university charges or course supplements incurred by the student. For any of the aforementioned fees incurred by WHARTON or SUMMER DISCOVERY, the student’s parents or guardian agree to reimburse WHARTON or SUMMER DISCOVERY, as applicable, within 10 days of receipt of invoice.

Force Majeure

In the event that the Wharton Global Youth Programs are unable to operate or are forced to begin late or close early due to circumstances beyond WHARTONS’ and SUMMER DISCOVERY's control, including but not limited to weather, floods, utility failures, inaccessibility, civil unrest, pandemics or epidemics (including quarantine, “stay at home,” travel, “social distancing,” maximum crowd size, or other related restrictions, requirements, or guidance from federal, state, or local authorities or the University of Pennsylvania), governmental order, university order or other such reason, WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY shall not be responsible for any costs, losses, or other damages beyond a refund of tuition, or a proportionate share, less actual costs incurred thereof in the event of partial shutdown.

Miscellaneous

Students must be covered by medical and baggage insurance by their parents or guardians as SUMMER DISCOVERY and WHARTON cannot and do not assume any medical costs or baggage losses incurred during the program. WHARTON reserves the right to limit enrollment and/or cancel any program due to overwhelming or insufficient enrollment. WHARTON at its discretion, may approve the voluntary participation of the student in research studies and/or surveys conducted by educational providers, admissions personnel, graduate students, undergraduate students and high school students, as long as such research is consistent with the goals, rules and regulations of WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY. I authorize WHARTON and SUMMER DISCOVERY to use my child’s likeness in photographs, videos, or other digital media in any and all of its publications, including web-based publications, without payment or other consideration.
